Rides in Nijmegen fall into three kinds. Short ones inside the city, priced as one fixed amount with a minimum fare: Brabantse Poort to the station, Lent over the Waalbrug to the centre, a hotel to a dinner on the quay. Regional ones, quoted per kilometre: Arnhem up the A325 in twenty-odd minutes, Den Bosch west along the A50 and A59, Eindhoven south on the A50 for the campus there. Campus and hospital traffic has rules of its own. The Radboudumc and the university buildings around it form a district rather than an address: the entrances are numbered, the way in is rarely the way the navigation would choose, and somebody who arrives ten minutes early for an appointment is in a considerably better state than somebody who has spent twenty minutes circling a barrier.
