Nijmegen is a city built on a hill above a river, which is rare in the Netherlands and confusing to drive for the first time. The old town climbs from the Waalkade — the quay along the river — past the Grote Markt to the Sint-Stevenskerk, the lanes narrow as they go, and a good half of what looks like a route is a cycle street. Across the water lie Lent and the neighbourhoods of Nijmegen-Noord, reached over the Waalbrug or the newer bridge, De Oversteek. To the south and west the city opens out: the A73 along its flank, the campus at Heyendaal, the works and laboratories at Winkelsteeg, the business park at Bijsterhuizen on the road to Wijchen.
Most of our Nijmegen work starts at one of two places. Daily. Heyendaal is a campus of numbered buildings, one-way loops and separate hospital entrances, and the difference between the right door and the wrong one is a long walk. Give us the building or the entrance from your appointment letter and the chauffeur stops there; for a patient or an elderly guest the chauffeur walks the last metres and carries the bag.
Regularly. Kleve is a short drive east, and Duisburg, Düsseldorf and the wider Ruhr are each a single fixed quote from your address in Nijmegen, door to door, one way or return.
