Eindhoven,
from campus to runway.
The city that built Philips now builds the machines that make the world’s chips. Its visitors land at Schiphol or Eindhoven Airport, work at the High Tech Campus, ASML or the TU/e, and sleep near the station — three places that are a car ride apart, in a region designed around the A2.
Eindhoven, without the parking, the meter or the wait.
Eindhoven is a working city, and it is laid out like one. The High Tech Campus sits on the southern ring road, ASML is a few kilometres further west in Veldhoven, the university campus is on the north-east edge of the centre, Strijp-S occupies the old Philips works to the west, and Eindhoven Airport and the Flight Forum offices lie beyond that along the A2. Nothing is far, but nothing is walkable either, and a visiting engineer with three meetings and a flight has no time for a rental desk or a bus timetable. That is where a chauffeur earns the day.
The A2 is the spine of everything. It brings you down from Schiphol and Amsterdam past Den Bosch in about an hour and twenty minutes, becomes the Randweg with its parallel local lanes around the city, and continues south towards Maastricht and Belgium. The A58 reaches Tilburg and Breda, the A67 runs east to Venlo and the German border and west to Antwerp, and the A50 goes north to Nijmegen. We drive all of them, most often with a laptop open in the back seat.

The research campus on the southern ring road, home to Philips, NXP and dozens of technology companies — our most frequent Eindhoven destination, straight off the A2.
The De Run site in Veldhoven, a few minutes west of the campus, where a large share of our Eindhoven guests are headed from Schiphol or a hotel in the centre.
The station, the hotels on the Vestdijk, the Philips Stadion, the Effenaar and the bars of the Stratumseind — where most visitors sleep and where most evenings end.
The former Philips factory quarter, now design studios, restaurants, the Klokgebouw and the heart of Dutch Design Week — and the Evoluon a little further out on the Noord Brabantlaan.
The university campus on the north-east edge of the centre, the Kennedylaan corridor and the residential districts of Woensel beyond it.
The airport and the business park beside it on the western edge, off the A2 at Meerhoven — ten kilometres and a world away from the campus.
The everyday workhorse: sedans for one to three passengers.
Room for groups, families and luggage, with up to seven seats.
Flagship saloons for executives and VIP arrivals.
The pinnacle: Mercedes-Maybach, by request only.

About 125 kilometres, or 81 minutes on a clear run — the A2 nearly all the way, past Den Bosch and Utrecht, then the A9 into Schiphol. It is a proper journey, which is why we plan the pickup around traffic at Utrecht and the Amstel junction and keep a fixed price regardless of how the road behaves.
There are three answers, because there are three sorts of journey. The Schiphol run is a fixed figure per car, taxes in, identical in both directions: Business Class €428, Van Class €555, First Class €849. A day held inside the city is charged by the hour from €65, two hours at the minimum, with 40 kilometres inside each one. Eindhoven Airport, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf and Brussels are measured by the kilometre and fixed as a single amount at the moment you book.
Every week. For ASML we drop at the visitor entrance you name on the De Run site rather than at a car park; for the High Tech Campus we drive onto the campus to the building number on your invitation. Both are minutes from the A2, and both are on the way from Schiphol if your meeting starts before you have seen your hotel.
Often, and it is an easier arrival than Schiphol. The airport shares its corner of the west side with the Flight Forum offices, ten kilometres or so from the station and barely more from the High Tech Campus. Your flight is tracked, the chauffeur stands in the terminal with a name sign, and the ride onward — a campus building, a hotel on the Vestdijk, an ASML entrance in Veldhoven — is one fixed quote agreed beforehand.
It is one of the best in the country. Antwerp is about an hour west on the A67 and the E34, Düsseldorf is under two hours east via Venlo, and Brussels is roughly the same distance as Schiphol. We quote each as one fixed door-to-door price and cross the border without a change of car or driver.
