How early should I get to Schiphol for a flight to the US?
Plan on being at the airport about 3 hours before a US-bound departure, which is our standing advice for intercontinental flights, and follow your airline’s own time where it differs. Schiphol itself says there is no point arriving an hour earlier than your airline advises, because check-in desks may not be open yet — so for a 1pm flight from central Amsterdam, a pickup around 9:15am works, at a fixed €80 in Business Class.

The chauffeur confirms your departure hall from the flight number, so you are dropped at the right door. Prices are per car, not per person, with 9% Dutch VAT included, and the same day and night. Booked less than 12 hours before pickup: +10%. At Schiphol the first 60 minutes of waiting are free, elsewhere 15 minutes; after that waiting is charged per minute at the class's hourly rate (Business €65 an hour). Free cancellation up to 1 hour before pickup.

Allows 25–35 minutes of driving in normal traffic plus a margin. On weekday mornings the Stadhouderskade and the A10 south ring are slow between 7 and about 9:30, so we add time.
What takes the time at Schiphol on the way out
Checking bags, security and then border control on leaving the Schengen area, before you reach the non-Schengen gates for US flights. Schiphol said in August 2026 that departing travelers were seeing fewer delays at border control than arriving ones, but the line varies with the hour and the season.
Check in online before you leave the hotel, and check Schiphol’s own information on the day for road works or disruptions around the airport.
