My cruise ends in Amsterdam in the morning and my flight home is in the evening — what do I do with the day and my luggage?
Keep a car by the hour from the ship: your bags stay in the trunk while you see the Zaanse Schans windmills or the city and have lunch, and a fixed ride then takes you to Schiphol about 3 hours before a US flight. For a 7pm departure, 9:00 to 15:00 by the hour plus the airport ride costs €565 for the car in Van Class or €470 in Business Class; the lower-cost option is a locker at Amsterdam Centraal and the train.

Minimum 2 hours, 40 km per hour included; the hours end in Amsterdam and the ride to Schiphol is fixed: €80 Business, €85 Van, €90 First. Prices are per car, not per person, with 9% Dutch VAT included, and the same day and night. Booked less than 12 hours before pickup: +10%. At an airport or an intercity station the first 60 minutes of waiting are free, elsewhere 15 minutes; after that waiting is charged per minute at the class's hourly rate (Business €65 an hour). Free cancellation up to 1 hour before pickup.

What is included in the price
- A fixed price confirmed at booking, with VAT included: no meter and no surge
- The chauffeur’s name, car and phone number before pickup, plus e-mail reminders 24 hours and 2 hours ahead
- Water and phone chargers (iOS and Android) in the car
- Status updates to the person who booked, if that is not the passenger: confirmed, chauffeur en route, guest in the car, arrived
- Your suitcases stay in the car all day
- Waiting at each stop, as part of the hours booked
Planning backwards from the flight
- Flight time minus 3 hours. That is when to be at Schiphol for a flight to the US, unless your airline says otherwise.
- Minus the ride to the airport. About 25 minutes from the center on a clear road, more in the afternoon rush.
- Keep the first hour loose. Disembarkation does not run to the minute; book the start at the time the ship gives you for leaving.
- Send the ship and the berth. River quays and the ocean terminal are in different places; see where river ships dock.

Is it safe to leave our luggage in the car while we sightsee?
The bags stay locked in the trunk of the car you have booked by the hour, and the car stays with the chauffeur between your stops. Keep passports, medicine and valuables with you, as you would on any day out.
What if we get off the ship later than expected?
The hours run from the pickup time you book, so book it at the time the cruise line gives for leaving the ship and message the chauffeur if you are held up. On a straight ride to the airport, the first 15 minutes of waiting are included.
What are the cheaper options?
Lockers at Amsterdam Centraal, open 05:00 to 00:45, and the train to Schiphol, or your cruise line’s own tour or airport transfer; see cruise-line transfer or private car. A hotel day room gives you a shower, but needs two transfers.
Can we visit Keukenhof on the way to the airport?
In spring, during Keukenhof’s season, yes. Because the day would end outside Amsterdam, dispatch quotes the ship → Keukenhof → Schiphol day as one fixed amount rather than by the hour.
