Are taxis available in Amsterdam on New Year’s Eve?
Yes, but they carry the whole city for a few hours: last year trains, trams, buses and metros stopped around 20:00 on December 31 and only night buses returned from 01:30, while taxis kept running, according to I amsterdam. We have no figures for taxi queues that night, so the dependable option is a car booked in advance, at a price fixed when you book — €50 in Business Class for a ride inside Amsterdam of up to 10 km, with no holiday surcharge.

A car for the whole evening: €65 an hour in Business Class, minimum 2 hours, starting and ending in Amsterdam. Prices are per car, not per person, with 9% Dutch VAT included, and the same day and night. Booked less than 12 hours before pickup: +10%. At an airport or an intercity station the first 60 minutes of waiting are free, elsewhere 15 minutes; after that waiting is charged per minute at the class's hourly rate (Business €65 an hour). Free cancellation up to 1 hour before pickup.

What is included in the price
- A fixed price confirmed at booking, with VAT included: no meter and no surge
- The chauffeur’s name, car and phone number before pickup, plus e-mail reminders 24 hours and 2 hours ahead
- Water and phone chargers (iOS and Android) in the car
- Status updates to the person who booked, if that is not the passenger: confirmed, chauffeur en route, guest in the car, arrived
Getting a car on New Year’s Eve
- Book weeks ahead. Requests for that night are handled in the order they arrive.
- Plan around midnight. Streets near the big celebrations fill up; pick a pickup point a short walk away, agreed with your chauffeur.
- Or keep one car. An hourly booking covers dinner, the countdown and the ride home.
- On the night. You get the chauffeur’s name and number, so you can find each other in the crowd.
