Three motorways meet here. The A67 runs west to Eindhoven and east into Germany towards Duisburg, the A73 runs south to Roermond and north to Nijmegen along the Maas, and the short A74 links the ring to the German A61 at Kaldenkirchen. The old centre around the Markt and the stepped-gable stadhuis is compact and half pedestrian; Q4 and the Maasboulevard face the river; Blerick sits across the bridge on the west bank; and Tegelen, Belfeld, Velden and Arcen are villages strung along the Maas within the same city limits.
