Do visa-free travelers from Asia need ETIAS for Keukenhof 2027, and what is EES?
Not ETIAS, as of October 2026: the European Commission says it is not in operation and that the start date will be announced several months ahead, and industry reports expect a start in 2027. What does apply is EES, the EU's digital border registration, in full use since April 10, 2026: on your first entry your passport is scanned and your face and fingerprints are recorded, and in August 2026 non-EU arrivals at Schiphol waited one to two hours on average.

EES at Schiphol, step by step
The EU's temporary flexibility for EES ended on September 6, 2026, so a busy morning can mean a long wait.
- Passport check at a kiosk or desk.
- Face image and fingerprints; children under 12 give no fingerprints.
- Questions about your stay, if the officer asks.
- On later trips the check is quicker, because you are already registered.
Protect your Keukenhof day
Landing in the morning? Book a Keukenhof slot at least 3 hours after landing. Landing in the evening, as flights from Seoul and Tokyo do? Go the next morning. Your chauffeur follows your flight and the time you come out, not the time on the timetable (arrival-day guide).
