Choose short drives and level ground. The Hague's Royal Christmas Fair (December 3 to 23, about 57 minutes away) stands on a level, tree-lined avenue with cafes nearby; Maastricht's market fills one open square, the Vrijthof; Haarlem's is only about 29 minutes from Amsterdam. Leave out Saturdays, Cologne's cathedral square at peak times and the line at Deventer's Dickens Festival, and note that Valkenburg's Mergelrijk diorama is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
