Which area of Amsterdam is best to stay in for the marathon without transport problems?
A hotel near a metro or train line to Amsterdam Zuid, the station the organizer sends runners to, keeps race morning simple without putting you on the course. Staying right by the start is walkable, but cars can’t reach the Stadionweg area from 06:00 to 19:00 on Sunday, October 18, 2026, and Museum Quarter hotels sit beside the closed Stadhouderskade. Arriving on Friday or Saturday avoids the Sunday closures entirely; on Saturday only the area around the Amstelveenseweg and the Stadionweg closes, from about 10:00 to 17:00. Prices are per car, not per person, with 9% Dutch VAT included, and the same day and night. Booked less than 12 hours before pickup: +10%. At an airport or an intercity station the first 60 minutes of waiting are free, elsewhere 15 minutes; after that waiting is charged per minute at the class's hourly rate (Business €65 an hour). Is it worth staying right next to the Olympic Stadium?
For the start, yes: you walk to the gate. The catch is the rest of Sunday — no car access around the stadium from early morning until about 19:00, and no parking in the stadium garage that day, so plan arrivals and departures for Saturday or Monday.
I stay in the canal belt. How do I get to the start?
By metro or train to Amsterdam Zuid and the signposted walk, as the organizer advises, or by car to the Kiss & Ride on the Jachthavenweg. The canal belt is not on the course, but a car heading south has to go around the closed Stadhouderskade.
Should I arrive in Amsterdam on Saturday or Sunday?
Saturday or earlier. On Saturday only the 7.5K area near the stadium closes for part of the day; on Sunday the closures cover large parts of Zuid, Oost and the Stadhouderskade from early morning.
Where does the course run near hotels?
Through the Vondelpark and under the Rijksmuseum, along the Stadhouderskade, through the Zuidas, along the Amstel and through Oost past the Science Park and the Zeeburgerdijk. The road-closure page lists every area and time window.
