DAY TRIPS FROM AMSTERDAM · THE FLOWER AUCTION ON YOUR LAST MORNING

Can we visit the Aalsmeer flower auction on the morning we fly home?

Yes, if the flight leaves after about 13:00. The Royal FloraHolland auction in Aalsmeer is open to visitors Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 11:00, the floor is liveliest before 10:00, and on Thursdays trading winds down around 9:00. On a 2024 forum thread, a traveler with a 15:00 flight was told it meant checking out at dawn, a locker at Schiphol and a bus to the auction, and skipped it; with the bags in the trunk it becomes simple: leave the hotel at 7:00, spend an hour on the visitor route, and reach Departures, about 18 minutes away, by 10:00.

During ADE week (pickups October 20 to 26, 2026) fixed ADE-week prices apply, shown before you book; promo codes cannot be used that week. Booked less than 12 hours before pickup: +10%. At an airport or an intercity station the first 60 minutes of waiting are free, elsewhere 15 minutes; after that waiting is charged per minute at the class's hourly rate (Business €65 an hour). Free cancellation up to 1 hour before pickup.

Set expectations

Much of the bidding now happens online, so the clock rooms are quieter than in old photographs. What remains impressive is the logistics: carts of flowers moving through one of the largest buildings in the world by floor area. The auction's ticket site lists entry at €8 for adults and €5 for children aged 6 to 11, free under 6; guided group tours for up to 25 people cost €125 plus entry, take 1 to 1.5 hours and are booked by application.

How it is priced

Ask dispatch for one fixed quote covering the hotel pickup, the time at the auction and the drop at Departures. For comparison, a straight ride from Amsterdam to Schiphol is €80 in Business Class.
