Where can we follow Van Gogh outside Amsterdam?
Go south, to where his story starts. Vincent was born on 30 March 1853 in Zundert, where the Vincent van Gogh Huis stands on the site of the parsonage and the churchyard holds the grave of a brother, also named Vincent, born dead exactly a year earlier. From 1883 to 1885 he lived with his parents in Nuenen and painted The Potato Eaters there; the village has the Vincentre museum and a walking route past places he drew. Zundert is about 1 h 47 from Amsterdam by car, Nuenen about 1 h 51, and the two are 1 h 11 apart, so a nine-hour day fits both: €585 in Business Class, 360 km included.

If you can only pick one
Nuenen, for the density of places he painted. Zundert is the more personal stop, and on the first weekend of September it hosts a parade of floats covered in dahlias; see flowers after tulip season.
