Can we visit a Trappist brewery on a day trip from Amsterdam?
The nearest is La Trappe, brewed by the monks of the Koningshoeven Abbey in Berkel-Enschot near Tilburg, about 1 h 39 from Amsterdam by car, with a tasting room and brewery tours. Cross into Belgium and Westmalle's Café Trappisten, opposite the abbey, is another 53 minutes. With a chauffeur, the Dutch drink-drive limit of 0.5 per mille (0.2 for new drivers) stops being your concern. La Trappe on its own fits into six hours, €390 in Business Class; both abbeys take nine, €585 with 360 km included.
