Is Paleis Het Loo worth a day from Amsterdam, and what can we combine it with?
For gardens and royal history, yes. Het Loo in Apeldoorn was built in the 1680s for Stadholder William III and Mary II, who later reigned together in England, and it reopened in 2023 after a long renovation that added a new museum space beneath the forecourt; reviewers call it "the Versailles of Holland", mostly for the formal baroque gardens. The palace is about 1 h 19 from Amsterdam by car, and the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Hoge Veluwe lies about 29 minutes beyond, so the pair fits one day. The palace alone takes seven hours door to door (€455 in Business Class); with the Kröller-Müller, plan nine (€585).
